Hans Rosling

Today in class we watched a video called "Hans Rosling 200 years in 4 minutes." The man- Hans- teaches global health. Which is "t he health of populations in the global context; it has been defined as "the area of study, research and practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide".   We also learned about a graph which explains the population. In 1810 the life expectancy was below 40.

Population Pyramid TED talk

Today in class we watched the population pyramid video as a class. Russia is the largest country in the world in square miles. Nigeria has the largest population and it is still growing. In a population pyramid men are always on the left, women are always on the right and the numbers are in the middle. It starts with the youngest and increases until the oldest are at the top. It counts up in intervals of 5. The pre reproductive years are 00-04, 05-05, 10-14. If the pyramid looks like a triangle then the population is growing quickly (pre industrialization). If the pyramid starts at the bottom and then goes outward and comes back in the population is growing slowly (Industrialization). But if the population starts small get's bigger than gets small that means that the population is declining (Post Industrial). A population pyramid can be a record of a countries past. For example when the baby boom hit after World War II that was recorded.

Population Pyramids

Today in class we  watched a video on Population Pyramids. Males are on one side females are on the other. The numbers for population are shown in the middle. For every 5 years. It go's up to 100+. Starting at 0-4. The first group is pre-reproductive (0-14). Reproductive (15-44). Post reproductive years (45 and up). Population Pyramids can predict future population trends. Today in class we also got our tests back. I got an 89%. I got number 11, 14, 22, and 26 wrong. Number 11 asked what the unemployment rate rate is in Brazil. I put 28.5% the correct answer was 12.8%. Number 14 gave a definition and you had a word bank to choose from. The correct answer was Net Migration Rate. I put Population growth rate. Number 22 you had to do math. I was one off. Number 26 asked which of the three counties had the highest fertility rate: China, Niger or Canada. I said Canada but the correct answer was Niger. I got one of the bonus questions right.

Test day!!!

Today in class we took test on population and settlement. The first twelve questions we had to use cia.gov to find the answers. The second page we had a word bank and we had to match the word with a description/definition. The third page was doing math. The last page was two bonus questions. I studied so I am expecting to get a good grade. The test was not that hard. The first 20 minutes we used our laptops to fill in the answers about the world facts book. The second page was about the main terms we learned such as the definition of Life Expectancy. Which is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Women outlive men in life expectancy. Crude birth rate  which is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Crude death rate  which is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. The rate of natural increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. Net migration rate is the difference between the number per

Study for test

Today in class we went over our notes to see what we needed for the test. Some things that I need to know are that there are 7.5 billion people on the planet right now. 90% of this population growth takes place in developing countries such as Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. We have to know the definition of Life Expectancy. Which is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Women outlive men in life expectancy. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Crude death rate is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. The rate of natural increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. Net migration rate is the difference between the number persons entering a country and leaving a country during a year. An excess of persons entering the country is net immigration. Which is written as a positive number. An excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration. Which is w

Population and settlement pt.4

Today in class we learned about push and pull factors. Moving yourself and your family can be caused by many reasons. Such as war, unemployment, or underemployment. Unemployment and underemployment is very common in this hemosphere. America is one of the highest places that people to go to escape their home country. 3% is the percentage of unemployment in the United States. The unemployment rate is not just people who do not have a job. We also looked at cia.gov website. Angola has the highest birth rate per 1000 people. Japan has a low birth rate. But they also have an older population.  Monaco is the lowest country for birth rate. South Sudan has the highest death rate. There is lot's of war going on there with big refugee camps. Afghanistan has the highest infant mortality rate in the world.

Population and settlement pt.3

Net Migration Rate  is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year. An excess of persons entering the country is  net migration . Written as a positive number. Example: Canada has 5.65 migrants per 1000 population. An excess of persons leaving the country is  net emigration . Written as a negative number. Example: Mexico has -1.68 migrants per 1000 population. People migrate for two reasons. First is  push factors/ forces  such as Civil War, Environmental degradation, unemployment or underemployment, and religious or ethnic persecution. The second thing is  pull factors/ forces  such as better economic opportunity, better health services, religious freedom, and political freedom.  Total Fertility Rate(TFR)  is the average number of children born per woman. For a population to remain the same, the  TFR  must be 2.1. If it's higher than 2.1 the population rises. If it's lower than 2.1 the population fails. World TFR : 2.42 (It was 2.

Test review

Today in class we got our tests back and reviewed the problems. My percentage was 78%. I got numbers 13, 15, 18, 19, 20, and 26 wrong. Number 13 asked: Which of the following is NOT true about Greenwich Mean Time? The answer was a. It is established at the intersection of the Prime Meridian and the Equator. Number 15 asked if the South Pole was a relative location, an absolute location, or neither. The answer was b. Absolute location. Number 18 asked if Tiananmen Square, China was a relative location, an absolute location, or neither. The answer is b. an absolute location. Question 19 gave a latitude that was not real. So the answer was neither. Number 20 asked if the peak of Mount Everest  was a relative location, an absolute location, or neither. The answer was an absolute location. Number 26 asked: The UTC for the Eastern Time Zone in the United states is expressed as what? The answer was d. UTC -5:00.

Population and Settlement

Today in class we learned about population and settlement. There are over 7.5 billion people on the planet right now. Increasing by over 73 million per year. By approximately 200,000 per day, 8377 per hour, 149 per minute, 2.5 per second. 90% of this population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. Life expectancy is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Crude death rate is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. Rate of natural increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. This gives us the natural annual growth rate- in percentage form- for a country or region.

Test day

Today in class we took a test. It was 27 questions long. We got to use our previous blogs to help us. I think i did well because I studied over the weekend. The questions were about longitude, latitude, The Prime Meridian, parallels, absolute location, relative location, the equator, time zones, the Tropic of Cancer, ect. Today is also Hawaiian Day for spirit week.

Pop quiz

Today in class we took a pop quiz. We reviewed it in class and I did not do good so I will study over the weekend.  I think the highest I could get is a 60%. Monday is our test. Next week is also spirit week. Monday is Hawaiian Day. Tuesday is character day. Wednesday is black and gold day. Thursday is age day. Friday is class color day. The pep rally and powder puff game is after school on Friday. That night is the Homecoming football game against Loyola. The pop quiz was only ten points. So Im still mad i got a low score but I will study harder. I do not have a lot of homework this week so i will be able to study for the test, review my notes, and go over the blogs and material for class. It will be on latitude, longitude, time zones, site, and situation.

Time Zones

Today in class we learned/talked about time zones. A time zone is a region of the globe that observes a uniform standard time for legal, commercial, and social purposes. Time zones tend to follow the boundaries of other countries. Coordinate Universal Time (UCT) is the primary standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. Greenwich mean time (GMT) is often used as a synonym for UTC. GMT predates UTC by nearly 300 years. We also have Daylight Savings Times. Some temperature zone countries use Daylight Saving Time for part of the year, typically by adjusting local clock time by an hour. "Spring forward, fall back." Sunday March 10, 2019........Sunday November 3, 2019. Some people want to abolish Daylight Saving Time.   We also talked about in class that: what if we did not have time zones? It would have some pros and some cons A pro would be if you are booking a flight to a place like Australia you do not have to try to match the time zones to make sure you known
