The questions that I got wrong were number 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, and 25. Red is what I answered, Black is the right answer. 14. They believe in observing the Five Pillars.( B ,D) 15. Religion Quiz

Hi bloggggg! Today in class we took a quiz on 5 major religions. Christianity: number of adherents:  around 2.2 billion (largest in the world) call them:  Christians geographic location:  Europe, the Americas, Southern Africa denominations:  Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant (Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, many more) founder:  Jesus Christ (christianity is Abrahamic in origin) holy book:  The Bible, especially the New Testament (Gospels) beliefs:  Jesus is both human and divine- the son of God; he led a virtuous life; he was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected; he ascended into heaven where he reigns with God the Father clergy:  the Pope is head of the Catholic Church, priests are local authorities Islam: number of adherents:  1.5 billion (second largest) call them:  Muslims geographic location:  Indonesia, Middle East, North Africa denominations:  Sunnis (75-90%), Shiites (10-20%) founder:  Muhammad (570-632

Religion pt.2

Today in class we learned about the other three religions. Hinduism: number of adherents: 1.1 billion (third largest) call them: Hindus geographic location: India, Nepal holy book: The Vedas- eternal truths revealed to ancient sages; composed in verse form (meant to be sung and easily memorized) founder: No distinct founder- it is a series of intellectual or philosophical points of view rather than a rigid, strict set of beliefs- probably the oldest extant religion, although Hinduism is less a religion than a way of life, or a faith Example: "As a person puts on new clothes and discards old and torn clothes, similarly an embodied soul enters new material bodies, leaving the old bodies" (In other words.......reincarnation) Buddhism: number of adherents: 500 million-1.5 billion (estimates very quite a bit) call them: Buddhists geographic location: Southeast Asia, China, Nepal, Japan (there are 1.2 million Buddhists in the USA) denominations: Tibetan, Zen, Theravad

Religion pt.1

Hi Blogggggg!!!!! Today in class we talked about religion. We learned about 2 of the major 5 religions. The two religions we learned about were christianity and Islam. Christianity: number of adherents: around 2.2 billion (largest in the world) call them: Christians geographic location: Europe, the Americas, Southern Africa denominations: Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant (Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, many more) founder: Jesus Christ (christianity is Abrahamic in origin) holy book: The Bible, especially the New Testament (Gospels) beliefs: Jesus is both human and divine- the son of God; he led a virtuous life; he was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected; he ascended into heaven where he reigns with God the Father clergy: the Pope is head of the Catholic Church, priests are local authorities Islam: number of adherents: 1.5 billion (second largest) call them: Muslims geographic location: Indonesia, Middle East,

Test day!!

Hi bloggggg!!!1 Today in class we had a test. It was on terms that we have learned, population pyramids, and population. I think I will get a good grade because I studied over the weekend. The test was not that hard. I think preparing for the test in class helped. The test was 32 questions. All multiple choice and like 1 true or false. Some of the questions were on the terms that we learned such as Life Expectancy, Crude Birth Rate, Net Migration Rate, Net emigration rate, Net immigration rate, Total Fertility Rate, developing and developed countries, Rate of Natural Increase.  We also had to know how to read a population pyramid. Such as knowing which side the men were on and which side the women were on. Knowing what it means when population pyramids look different. What the different numbers mean (pre- reproductive years, reproductive years, post- reproductive years). We had to read the population pyramids provided then tell what nation it was. Overall I think the test went well.

Test Reviem pt.2

Hi Bloggggggg! Today and class we review population pyramids and watched a video for our test on Monday, November 18th. Russia is the largest country in the world in square miles and has a declining population. Nigeria has the largest population and it is still growing. In a population pyramid men are always on the left, women are always on the right and the numbers are in the middle. It starts with the youngest and increases until the oldest are at the top. It counts up in intervals of 5. The pre reproductive years are 00-04, 05-05, 10-14 . If the pyramid looks like a triangle then the population is growing quickly (pre industrialization). If the pyramid starts at the bottom and then goes outward and comes back in the population is growing slowly (Industrialization). But if the population starts small get's bigger than gets small that means that the population is declining (Post Industrial). A population pyramid can be a record of a countries past. For example when the baby boom

Test Review pt.1

Hi bloggggggg!!!! Today in class Mr. Schick told us we will have a test on Monday. We need to know that the population is over 7.6 billion on the planet right now. Also 90% of this population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. Life Expectancy is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Women outlive men in almost all countries. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Crude death rate is is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. Rate of natural increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. This gives us the natural growth rate- in percentage form- for a country or region. Net Migration Rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year. An excess amount of persons entering the country is net immigration. Written as a positive number. A excess amount of persons leavin

Presentation-Self evaluation and class evaluation

I think I did good in the presentation but I could have done a lot better. Everyone in my group was working hard. Our group didn't really define a specific problem and it wasn't very put together. Other groups did define a specific problem better. I think yesterday went well overall. Everyone payed attention and was respectful. People were asking good questions and were engaged in what was being presented. Today everyone evaluated and gave each person and themself a percentage for the presentation/project. I was team captain. I gave myself a 83 because I think I did a good  job but I could have done a lot better. Our presentation was ok but we didn't define a specific problem like the other groups. But my slide could have been more elaborated and gone into better detail about the overall problems The Democratic Republic of the Congo has.

Presentation

Today in class we presented our countries. We were supposed to define a problem and provide a solution. Some of the problems were problems like HIV/AIDS. A solution would be better health care. My group presented third. The information that was on my note card that explained my bullets were that t he Democratic Republic of the Congo is a mixture of subsistence farming. Which means that you grow enough for yourself and your family but not enough to sell and make a biusness out of.. Another thing is that their economy is based on oil and support services. They have difficult economic challenges such as stimulating recovery which is increasing the economy and reducing poverty. 60% of the population is below the poverty line. There are multiple rounds of strikes because the government is inable to pay civil servant salaries so doctors, nurses, and teachers are on strike . Also they have seasonal flooding which devastates crops this relates back to a mixture of subsistence farming..

Country Presentation

Today in class we got assigned groups, and a country we had to do a power point and present about. My group is me,  Cici, Alex, and Ryleigh. The country assigned to us is The Democratic Republic of the Congo. In our powerpoint I am doing the introduction/overview. Cici is doing people and society. Alex is doing energy. Ryleigh is doing economy. Our presentation has to be two minutes long. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a developing nation. We are using The World Factbook (cia.gov) to find statistics to present in a powerpoint and explain. The four countries that are being presented are The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Germany, and Japan. Some things I am talking about when I present is that  The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a mixture of subsistence farming. Which means that you grow enough for yourself. Another thing is that their economy is based on oil and support services. They have difficult economic challenges. There are multiple rounds of strikes. Also

Exam Questions

Today in class we went over 37 questions that will be on the exam which will be over 100 questions long. I knew almost all of them. Our exam is 6 weeks away. The questions were based on the cia world factbook. Some of the questions were what does cia stand for. The answer is Central Intelligence Agency. Another question was along the lines of what website do we use to find facts about the world and the population. The answer was cia.gov. Another question was what country has the highest crude death rate and highest crude birth rate. The answer was Nigeria. Other questions were where we got four countries and had to answer questions based on them. Such as which of the four countries has the second highest population which is soon going to be the first. The four options were Japan, Nigeria, India, and The United States. The answer was India. We will have a pop quiz this week.

Summary of what we did in class yesterday

Yesterday in class Mr. Schick was not in class. We were in Mrs. G's room. Our assignment was: 1 ) You will search the  CIA World Factbook  to find five pieces of information that reflect our studies in Population and Migration. Try to stay away from trivial, unimportant factoids, and search out items that are significant and impactful. For each of these facts you will write a brief paragraph describing why you found this fact interesting and how it relates to work we are doing in class. 2) Then, under the People and Society tab, find the population pyramids for five different countries. Based on the shape of each pyramid, make a prediction about whether that country's population will rise rapidly, rise slowly, or decline. Finally, check your prediction for accuracy using  PopulationPyramid.net , or the "Population growth rate" statistic in the CIA World Factbook. I finished my blog in class so i had no homework for Human Geo last night. The assignment took me almo

Sub in class

1. Syria has 57 migrants per 1000 of the population. This fact relates to what we are doing in class because if a country has a lot of migrants that means they have a pull force. Such as better employments or health care. 2. Monaco has a life expectancy of 89.40. Monaco has the highest life expectancy in the world. This relates to what we are doing in class because at the top of their population period the bars would have a greater number. 3. The United States has 13,513 airports. This is important because if you are in the military and need to land a plane you can find out where to land. Also if you are traveling it is a lot easier to fly to someplace rather than drive a far distance. 4. The Cocos (Keeling) Islands have an unemployment rate of .10. They have the lowest unemployment rate in the world. That means more people have jobs compared to their population based on other countries. 5. South Sudan has a death rate of 19.30. South Sudan has the highest death rate in the world.
