Hans Rosling

Today in class we watched a video called "Hans Rosling 200 years in 4 minutes." The man- Hans- teaches global health. Which is "t he health of populations in the global context; it has been defined as "the area of study, research and practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide".   We also learned about a graph which explains the population. In 1810 the life expectancy was below 40.

Population Pyramid TED talk

Today in class we watched the population pyramid video as a class. Russia is the largest country in the world in square miles. Nigeria has the largest population and it is still growing. In a population pyramid men are always on the left, women are always on the right and the numbers are in the middle. It starts with the youngest and increases until the oldest are at the top. It counts up in intervals of 5. The pre reproductive years are 00-04, 05-05, 10-14. If the pyramid looks like a triangle then the population is growing quickly (pre industrialization). If the pyramid starts at the bottom and then goes outward and comes back in the population is growing slowly (Industrialization). But if the population starts small get's bigger than gets small that means that the population is declining (Post Industrial). A population pyramid can be a record of a countries past. For example when the baby boom hit after World War II that was recorded.

Population Pyramids

Today in class we  watched a video on Population Pyramids. Males are on one side females are on the other. The numbers for population are shown in the middle. For every 5 years. It go's up to 100+. Starting at 0-4. The first group is pre-reproductive (0-14). Reproductive (15-44). Post reproductive years (45 and up). Population Pyramids can predict future population trends. Today in class we also got our tests back. I got an 89%. I got number 11, 14, 22, and 26 wrong. Number 11 asked what the unemployment rate rate is in Brazil. I put 28.5% the correct answer was 12.8%. Number 14 gave a definition and you had a word bank to choose from. The correct answer was Net Migration Rate. I put Population growth rate. Number 22 you had to do math. I was one off. Number 26 asked which of the three counties had the highest fertility rate: China, Niger or Canada. I said Canada but the correct answer was Niger. I got one of the bonus questions right.

Test day!!!

Today in class we took test on population and settlement. The first twelve questions we had to use cia.gov to find the answers. The second page we had a word bank and we had to match the word with a description/definition. The third page was doing math. The last page was two bonus questions. I studied so I am expecting to get a good grade. The test was not that hard. The first 20 minutes we used our laptops to fill in the answers about the world facts book. The second page was about the main terms we learned such as the definition of Life Expectancy. Which is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Women outlive men in life expectancy. Crude birth rate  which is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Crude death rate  which is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. The rate of natural increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. Net migration rate is the difference between the n...

Study for test

Today in class we went over our notes to see what we needed for the test. Some things that I need to know are that there are 7.5 billion people on the planet right now. 90% of this population growth takes place in developing countries such as Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. We have to know the definition of Life Expectancy. Which is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year. Women outlive men in life expectancy. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1000 of the population. Crude death rate is the number of deaths per 1000 of the population. The rate of natural increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. Net migration rate is the difference between the number persons entering a country and leaving a country during a year. An excess of persons entering the country is net immigration. Which is written as a positive number. An excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration. Which is w...
